ThePornTalk.com is a website online that helps parents alert their kids about porn, and the dangers it can cause to them. This site, believe it or not, has
attacked our beloved
Wii console. It's complaining about the
Wii's online ability. The article is alerting parents that kids can access porn on the relatively new Internet Channel (Trial Version). Now that's a
reeeeallly smart statement there,
ThePornTalk. You know what? You can look up porn on the
Internet ANYTIME! But seriously folks, if these guys (and girls for that matter) are going to go about attacking harmless family video game consoles, it's their own fault.
Being a
Wii owner, I happen to have this Internet Channel (Trial Version) on my
Wii. But, before I could visit a
single website, an agreement came onscreen. This little guy right here is going to be our friend in this argument. In this, it is "A contract between the user (you), and
Ninendo Corp". In this contract, it states that in order to be able to use this channel, you must not break any copyright laws, or
view harmful material. I'm going to guess that this means porn and violence. And Drugs. If some dumb kid wants to be stupid enough to say "
LOL Pr0(\)!", they're going to be breaking that contract. And that's against the law. Your kids find some non-kiddie porn on your home computer? Oh, you can ground them for a week or two, maybe take away the
Wii, maybe smack them even. Your kids find any porn whatsoever on the
Wii? They're breaking the law, and they can get in serious trouble. They'll
definitely be doing some community service, and maybe some
jail time if they're old enough. Think of this contract as a barrier to porn on the
Wii. Now, can you/ your kids go and see some porn and get away with it? Oh
definitely. But here's the thing: YOU AS A PARENT CAN CHANGE THAT. There is a simple spot on the fantastic
Wii console that will help you here. Go to the
Wii Menu, go to
Wii settings, then to "Parental Controls". You can then set up a 4-number P.I.N. From there on, your kids don't get on the Internet Channel unless you put in that number.
Convenient, huh? Also, kids, just don't do this for the sake of argument. It makes my job a lot easier.
